WD hard drive ultimate maintenance methods

1. First check the module is good or bad by PC3000 or HRT. Find out all the bad module with the heads number and attempt to repair it if possible.
2. SA issues, if the SA has bad sectors and a large number of consecutive bad sectors, then clear the SPT area. HRT is possible to repair a small amount of bad sectors.
3. Bad sectors at SA and the module corrupted, re-write the good module from another exactly same firmware drive.
4. Use "test head" function by PC3000 and find out all the bad heads. Turn off all the bad heads. Attempt to mirror all possible sectors by good heads. PC3K should be good to do this. After, replace the bad heads and mirror the unread sectors.
5. Heads is clicking. First check the PCB board. ROM is not the same even the same DCM and model. It is many reason to cause the head clicking, Hotswap method may be resolved the issues. Physical problem, if the heads is bad, need heads transplant.
6. WD firmware has so many different version, even exact same model, it has many different version. We need to collect a lot of firmware for WD. Model + ROM + family code also add a DCM, so that it completely like WD400EB-00CPF0-060406-(fcode: 0640G-33)-RSBBHV2B Of course, not exactly the same firmware can not be repaired disk, but this is a more complete standard.
